Radiation Therapy at Haramaya University Specialized Hospital, Ethiopia-
What is Radiation Therapy?
Radiotherapy is a therapy that involves the use of high energy rays, for instance X-rays in the successful treatment of cancer. These rays are much stronger than those employed in simple X-ray diagnostic procedures, for instance those used when checking for bone fractures or the like. Radiotherapy has the aim of specifically killing the cancer cells in a certain part of the body and or inhibiting their ability to proliferate.
In the course of the treatment, a machine focuses the high energy rays on the tumor without affecting the healthy tissue much. Radiotherapy perhaps can at times be employed individually, although it can as well be employed alongside additional treatment methods such as surgery or chemotherapy.
