Radiation Therapy at Ayder Comprehensive Specialized Hospital –
What is Radiation Therapy?
Radiotherapy, also known as radiation therapy, is a medical treatment that uses high doses of radiation to kill cancer cells or shrink tumors. The radiation works by damaging the DNA inside the cancer cells, which prevents them from growing and dividing. Radiotherapy can be delivered externally, using a machine that directs radiation beams at the cancer, or internally, by placing radioactive material inside the body near the cancer cells. This treatment is commonly used for various types of cancer and can be used alone or in combination with other treatments such as surgery and chemotherapy.
