Prof. Getachew Assefa

Prof. Getachew Assefa is a neuroradiologist in Addis Ababa. He is a former Associate Professor at Addis Ababa University, Faculty of Medicine and is a consultant radiologist at Addis Hiwot General Hospital. Dr. Assefa is a highly experienced body imaging specialist who has been working in the medical domain for over 15 years. He has vast teaching and practical experience in detecting and characterizing abnormalities in patients’ nervous system, head, neck, and spine. Prof. Getachew is skilled in using neuroimaging techniques like Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), and ultrasound. In addition, he treats patients using minimally invasive and image-guided surgeries.

Prof. Assefa completed his medical studies at Addis Ababa University, followed by residency training in radiology. He then worked as a radiology professor at the University of Gondar and Addis Ababa University. Prof. Assefa has authored several research papers on neuroradiology that show his expertise in infectious disease diagnostics and infectious disease epidemiology. Today, he is at the forefront of leveraging imaging technology to enhance the care landscape for neurological conditions in Ethiopia.
