Dr Samuel Hailu, Orthopedic Surgeon, Hip-Knee Replacement & Trauma Subspecialist
Dr Samuel Hailu is the best orthopaedic surgeon with subspecialty training in arthroplasty, trauma, and hip-knee replacement. He studied Doctor of Medicine and received an orthopaedic speciality certificate from Addis Ababa University School of Medicine. Dr Hailu did travelling fellowships at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, and Rush-Presbyterian in Chicago. Later, he did his subspeciality fellowship in joint replacement and orthopaedic trauma at Sunnybrook Health Sciences and Holland Orthopaedic & Arthritic Centres, University of Toronto, Canada.
He returned to Ethiopia after his studies continued advancing his skills and focused on improvements. He introduced advanced operative management of complex pelvic and acetabular fractures in Black Lion specialized hospital and Ethiopia. Dr Samuel developed a muscle-sparing, minimally invasive surgical approach technique for various orthopaedic surgeries like hip replacement surgery called direct anterior approaches. He offers treatments for lower back muscle spasms, stiff lower back, burning pain in the back, lower back discomfort, spine problems, sciatica pain, knee replacement surgery, and knee joint pain treatment.
He further studied in Belgium and introduced the systematic direct anterior hip replacement concept in Ethiopia. He ensures the patient gets the most benefits from this technology, including low complication risk, small scar, shorter rehabilitation process, and efficient surgical techniques. Presently, Dr Samuel is heading the orthopaedic department of Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital at Addis Ababa University. He also works part-time at Samaritan Surgical Center.
