Dr. Birhanu Ayana
Dr. Birhanu Ayana is a highly esteemed Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon specializing in pediatric orthopedic surgery. He completed a pediatric orthopedic surgery fellowship at Christian Medical College in Vellore, India, and further honed his skills through short traveling fellowship training at SickKids Hospital in Toronto, Canada, and Iowa University in Iowa, USA. Currently, Dr. Birhanu serves as an Associate Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital (Black Lion) under Addis Ababa University. His extensive experience and expertise enable him to treat a wide range of pediatric orthopedic conditions as well as adult orthopedic issues related to trauma, deformity, and dislocations.
In addition to his academic and clinical roles, Dr. Birhanu works part-time as a Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon and Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery specialist at Marcia Surgical Center. His commitment to orthopedic care is further demonstrated through his role as Medical Director of Hope Walks-Ethiopia, where he has been providing medical leadership and training within the Ethiopian clubfoot program since April 2013. This program, in partnership with the Ministry of Health, aims to eliminate clubfoot as an adult disability by delivering high-quality care across Ethiopia. His dedication to improving pediatric orthopedic care and his involvement in various institutions highlight his significant contributions to the field.
