Dr. Wondwossen Amogne Degu
Dr. Wondwossen Amogne Degu is an internal medicine doctor and an Associate Professor of Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases at Addis Ababa University. He works in the Department of Internal Medicine. Dr. Degu is also affiliated with Hallelujah General Hospital and is a visiting internist there. He has over 20 years of experience in treating patients with highly infectious diseases like Tuberculosis and viral infections like HIV, hepatitis, and SARS-CoV-2.
As an infectious disease expert, Dr. Degu routinely executes procedures such as blood cultures, lumbar punctures, and antimicrobial therapy. He also performs post-exposure prophylaxis for HIV to prevent infection post-exposure. Dr. Degu is one of the leading infectious disease specialists in Ethiopia. He has been entitled to many grants by the government to study infectious diseases in Ethiopia. Chief among them are an NIH research grant as a principal investigator, an NIHR grant to study the hepatitis C virus, and a thematic research grant from Addis Ababa University to study urinary tract infections among pregnant women. In addition, Dr. Degu is a part of DESTINE, a partnership project between Ethiopian, Israeli Universities, and U.K. Universities to study the scale of HCV infections in Ethiopia.
