Prof. Miliard Derbew

Prof. Miliard Derbew is a renowned pediatric surgeon who teaches at Addis Ababa University. He is also a part of the board of directors at Addis Hiwot General Hospital. Dr. Derbew is a global health leader with over 35 years of experience in treating various conditions in newborns and adolescents. His continuous efforts have transformed the realm of pediatric care in Ethiopia, with more and more children getting the needed surgical treatment for various conditions.
Dr. Derbew holds many eminent positions, which highlight his excellence in pediatric surgery. In addition to being a trainer, educator, researcher, physician, and passionate advocate of health, Dr. Derbew has been an Executive Board Member of Lifebox, Vice President of the Alliance for Surgery and Anesthesia Prevalence, and president of the College of Surgeons of East, Central, and Southern Africa (COSECSA). He has authored over 93 papers that have been published in international journals of surgery. His cutting-edge research shows the breadth of his knowledge and testifies to his abilities.
Dr. Derbew has worked as a Chief Executive Officer in some of the busiest hospitals in Rwanda and Ethiopia. He has also headed various grant projects by the National Institute of Health (NIH) in Ethiopia.
