Dr. Shibikom Tamirat

Dr. Shibikom Tamirat is a renowned cardiac surgeon in Addis Ababa. He is one of the few surgeons who specializes in both adult and pediatric cardiac care. Dr. Tamirat practices at Ethio Istanbul General Hospital and TAZMA Medical and Surgical Specialized Center. He has over two decades of experience treating congenital heart defects and performing surgeries to manage complex cardiovascular diseases. Dr. Tamirat has helped countless patients in sub-Saharan Africa with his expertise in aortic and mitral valve surgery for rheumatic heart conditions.

Dr. Tamirat completed his MBBS training in India. He passed with a gold medal and went on to complete a Fellowship in Adult and Pediatric cardiac surgery from the prestigious Narayana Insitute of Cardiac Sciences. Although Dr. Tamirat was invited to have a rewarding career in the US, he decided to stay in his homeland and serve fellow Ethiopians. He worked at some of the busiest hospitals in Addis Ababa and performed hundreds of cardiac, vascular, and heart transplant surgeries. His remarkable expertise in operating the heart and its structures has earned him the appreciation of a broad medical community.
