Dr. Kebede Oli is a cardiologist in Addis Ababa. He is the founder of Landmark General Hospital and an eminent scholar and clinician. Dr. Oli is one of the few medical practitioners specially recognized by the Oromia Physicians Association and honored with the Opa Award for lifetime achievement in clinical service (2021). His contributions as the Chairman of the Editorial Board of the Ethiopian Medical Journal and a reviewer of the African Journal of Cardiology since the late 1990s are also unparalleled.
Born in the small town of Shambu, Dr. Oli felt naturally inclined to study medicine from an early age. After completing high school, he embarked on medical studies (MBBS) in 1979. Soon after, he entered Addis Ababa University as an intelligent intern, where he found his calling in Internal Medicine. He was exposed to a rigorous curriculum as a resident, but it only strengthened his enthusiasm to explore the field further. So, he completed a fellowship in Clinical Cardiology cardiology from the prestigious McGill University in 1988.
After completing a Masters in Medical Sciences from the University of Newcastle, Australia, Dr. Oli became a scholar and, after a few years, was given full Professorship at Addis Ababa University. During this time, he helped enhance the medical infrastructure of the Cardiology Department, which led to a substantial improvement in the diagnosis and management of cardiovascular diseases. In the past decade, Dr. Oli has garnered many accolades for his tireless work in the medical domain. Today, he is looked upon as a role model by fellow clinicians and a savior by the Ethiopian population.
