Dr. Girma Makonnen
Dr. Girma Makonnen is a neurosurgeon currently serving at Marcia Surgical Center in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. His journey in the medical field began after completing his secondary education at St. Joseph High School in Addis Ababa in 1992. He then pursued higher education in the United States, obtaining his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Minnesota School of Pharmacy in 2001. Following this, he attended medical school at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City, where he earned his medical degree. Dr. Makonnen further specialized in neurosurgery during his residency training at Ohio State Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio.
After completing his rigorous training, Dr. Makonnen gained substantial experience working in various prestigious institutions. He served as a staff neurosurgeon at Lynchburg General Hospital in Virginia before moving to Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, North Dakota. In July 2018, Dr. Makonnen decided to return to Ethiopia permanently, where he has since been an integral part of Marcia Surgical Center. His extensive experience in neurosurgery, combined with his dedication to improving healthcare in Ethiopia, has made him a vital asset to the medical community in Addis Ababa.
