Dr. Berhane Redai
Dr Berhane Redai is an eminent laparoscopic surgeon associated with Addis Hiwot General Hospital in Addis Ababa. Before that, he was a consultant endoscopic surgeon at Saint Paul Hospital Millennium Medical College (SPHMMC), wherein he introduced many novel medical services. His work in the field of minimally invasive surgeries at SPHMMC has been pioneering. Under his leadership, the college launched GI and Hepatology Fellowship programs to enhance the care for liver and pancreatic conditions for patients in Ethiopia. In addition, Dr. Redai played a significant role in making SPHMMC set up the first transplant program in Ethiopia in 2015. Besides SPHMMC, Dr. Redai was instrumental in opening the Minimal Invasive Surgery Department at Adama General Hospital & Medical College. This institution was the first to perform esophageal stent placement across Adama.
Dr. Berhane Redai’s expertise and knowledge are best reflected in endoscopic procedures. These include Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography, Endoscopic papillary balloon dilatation, common bile duct stenting, Endoscopic mucosal resection and endoscopic submucosal dissection, Endoscopic polypectomy, and Esophageal stent placement. He is committed to advancing himself and wants the medical field in Ethiopia to deliver endoscopic treatments and services similar to those in abroad.
